Our Story

The Mississippi River begins as a mere 20-foot stream at its headwaters, yet swells to miles wide downstream.  Prayer mirrors this journey:  grand, transformative efforts often spring from humble, quiet beginnings.

In 2024, Tennessee launched a prayer movement with House Joint Resolution (HJR) 803, a "call to prayer, fasting and repentance" for the whole month of July.  Introduced by Rep. Monty Fritts, carried to the Senate by Sen. Mark Pody, and signed by Gov. Bill Lee, this initiative united all 95 Tennessee counties in prayer, with countywide Sacred Assemblies at each County Courthouse, from July 1st to July 31st, with participation ranging from a handful to hundreds gathering in each county—a humble start to a burgeoning movement.

In 2025, HJR 0051 (passing both House and Senate, and signed by Gov. Bill Lee on May 2nd), made this an unprecedented annual call for those “spiritually inclined and physically able” to join in prayer, fasting and repentance.  Tennessee faces urgent challenges: deadly drugs in our smallest towns, broken families, and rising crime.  The need for hope and healing is clear.  And there is no Revival without Repentance.

If you believe Jesus Christ is Tennessee’s only hope, this is your moment.  Join Believers across the state in the unity Jesus prayed for in John 17.  Let's stand together, hand-in-hand, for a Ninevah moment... for healing of our families, cities, state, and nation.  We need Jesus!

Pray4TN Purpose

"If you notice the world around you is becoming darker, don’t blame the darkness,

it is simply doing what darkness does.  The only remedy for darkness is light.  If the world

is becoming darker, the problem is not with the darkness.  The problem is with the light...

When God’s light is allowed to shine unhindered through your life,

the darkness around you will be dispelled."

--Henry Blackaby

Perhaps God is allowing darker times to awaken us to shine His light again.  At its core, Pray4TN is a movement of repentance, rooted in 2 Chronicles 7:14, promising healing of our land if we... the people of God... will humbly confess and turn from our sins, and seek God.  It's an amazing promise from God.

We invite the Body of Christ to unite, as Jesus prayed in John 17, joining those who share God’s heart.  Rooted in Tennessee’s Christian heritage, HJR 0051 calls all “spiritually inclined and physically able” to voluntarily pray, fast, and repent together each July.  If we willingly humble ourselves, God will transform lives and renew families, churches, communities, our state and nation.

This site is frequently updated as this story is unfolding.  Come back often to find more testimonies and practical ways to implement prayer, fasting, and repentance in your daily life.  Please pray for hearts to soften, and eyes and ears to open to this opportunity to come together in humility across Tennessee.

below is from last year...

Backstory of HJR 803

In 2023, Representative Monty Fritts was led by the Holy Spirit to develop a Resolution to present before the 113th General Assembly to ask God to Help.  There was no legislation that could be offered and no financial incentives offered by the Legislature to ultimately help with all the issues in our State.

After doing research as to how many of our founding fathers called upon calling out to the most high God for help because there was no where else to turn. Rep Fritts asked several local pastors to assist with developing the Resolution.

While there could be pages and pages of issues which needs the Divine help of Almighty God a smaller list was developed.

The list included:

Violence committed upon our citizens

Violence committed by our citizens

Violent crimes in our schools

Human Trafficking

Drug addiction

Deadly Fentanyl

Driving Under the Influence

Children in foster care

Broken homes in Tennessee

Corruption in government

Then a section of Be It Resolved prescribed the period of July 1, 2024 through July 31, 2024 be recognized as a time of prayer and fasting in Tennessee. The "Be It Resolved" Statements recognize God for who He is, the Creator and King of all Glory who has the authority to judge and to bless nations and states.  The statements as the Lord Jesus to heal our land, and remove the violence, addiction, and corruption.

Senator Mark Pody asked to carry the Resolution to the Senate for their consideration. He felt like Rep Fritts the only hope we have to resolve our issues is for God's people to go to Him on our knees asking Him to resolve our issues and help us.

Please read the complete HJR803 for a complete understanding of what both Houses of the General Assembly along with the Governor has agreed to.   (Continue learning the backstory HERE...)
